Thank you for visiting the Scandia Elementary School web site. I am proud of our staff, students, and families that daily contribute to the educational well being of this Minnesota School of Excellence. Our school motto challenges everyone to "reach for the stars" not only in their academic pursuits but also in their positive interactions with each other and their environment.

Our school and district goals this year are concentrated in the areas of student
achievement and diversity. Data from the state MCA tests and the district supported NWEA assessments is used to assist staff in preparing differentiated instruction in curriculum areas. Reflection on student achievement is ongoing throughout the year.

For the 2011-2012 school year, our staff are involved in many initiatives to meet our staff development goals of increasing student achievement in reading and mathematics as well as building in our understanding of student diversity. These initiatives include:

*Responsive Classroom
*Olweus Bullying Prevention Program/Peaceful Bus
*Response to Intervention
*Professional Learning Teams
*Differentiation in instruction by utilizing data
gathered from NWEA MAP scores and individualized
  reading and math common assessments
*Minnesota Reading Corps

*Technology integration with the use of our
SMART Boards, iPads, and mobile computer labs

It is a pleasure to work with this dedicated staff at Scandia.  They work tirelessly to develop educational programming that meets the needs of our students.  Cooperation, teamwork, and communication between all departments have made Scandia a strong leader in educational best practices for student learning.  However, the staff also recognizes the "whole child" when educating our students, thus the life long lessons about respect, kindness, citizenship, and tolerance are integrated into the daily routines at Scandia.

At Scandia Elementary we appreciate the strong ties with our community and families. We believe these partnerships contribute to the success of our school. Through the use of email, voice mail, newsletters, conferences, and report cards, families are informed of their student's progress. Volunteers also play an important role in assisting teachers to make their classrooms engaging and individualized for students.

When I speak to families about attending Scandia Elementary, I am most often told that they want to come to this school because they have heard that students do well here academically because everyone truly cares about each individual student. I cannot think of a better endorsement than that!
